Ex-Ofsted boss to lead head teacher death review

The former head of Ofsted, Sir Michael Wilshaw, has been appointed to lead a review into the rising number of suicides among head teachers. The review comes after a spate of high-profile cases where head teachers have taken their own lives due to the pressures and demands of the job.

Sir Michael Wilshaw, who served as the Chief Inspector of Ofsted from 2012 to 2016, is well-respected in the education sector and is seen as an authority on school leadership. He will be working closely with stakeholders from across the education community to identify the root causes of the problem and recommend ways to better support head teachers.

The review is expected to explore issues such as workload, accountability, mental health support, and the impact of government policies on head teachers. It is hoped that the findings of the review will lead to concrete recommendations that can help prevent future tragedies and improve the overall wellbeing of school leaders.
